Textured meshs
Hey this is a note for every1 sorta, when setting up the textures onto ya mesh if u see an area of the mesh that has a dark shade on it for seamingly no reason its cos your normals arnt set up correctly its easy enough to fix make sure tht the polygons menu is selected and then go across to the normals menu there and use 'set to face' this will set the normals to face corectly, if u want to see which way they are pointing click on the 'vertex normal edit tool' it will show the direction of the normals. Extra note for the level cos ya travelin inside of the object make sure that the faces are facing inwards. Ya prob going to have to reverse the norms the 'reverse norm' is in the same menu.
his should work in mst cases for the normals there is 1 other thing that can be don if there behaving strangly and thats done by clicking on the cleaup function in the mesh menu set to to sort out the normals and the geomoty hopfull this should get rid o any problems ya encounter with the mesh.
Theres 1 more thing that i need to mention normals need to be selectivly set, flat faces need to be set hard edge, crurved surfaves need to be softened this will mean that a flat face wount try to give the illusen of curving into a flat face. The vending machine that i am working on has this aplied and gives it a really crisp edge finish as well as a couple ok books figure there shold be incase of alien invasion hand book.

texture mesh update
Ok ive set up the textures so far so that the COLOURS CAN just be changed around no probs and wont cause any prob for the texture details. just layered in the photoshop file (REMEMBER KEEP the layers for coulor and detail seperate and set it so that the detils are added in black and white so the assets can be reused easily.) Srry to sound patranising its just a reminder cos it saves so much time. Anyway heres what i got so far the others just arnt really worth showing right now come to that the blue chair prob wernt worth showing but oh well.
Seriously u wouldnt belive now long it took to create the texture for the seats so it didnt totally suck. the vending machine still needs work to get right
now If your wondering how a 300 polly object looks so smooth then good cos this is kinda why i been stressin that setting up the norms is so important its cos they are. This is set using the soften edge function this will change the way light hits the object and it then appears smooth wooooh. This is whats done in like all games now its a great feature the engine should retain the norms configuration and so will help make everything look well not crap especially the charicters. If this isnt set all the models will look like somthin from the first tomb raider. not a good look
P.S these assets are by no way finnished and is it jut me or is it looking lioke this is the most homely bunker that i'have ever seen, yeah why shouldn't u be able to reseach weapons of mass destruction in comfort.
